Educator

James Ng is a highly-qualified teacher with many years of experience covering the span of solo cello, chamber music and orchestral music. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the National Institute of Education (NIE) and Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree majoring in Cello Performance from Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore. As an educator, James has served as an MOE teacher who taught general music in primary schools in Singapore for more than seven years. James has also been invited to give numerous masterclasses across Singapore and Malaysia, and has collaborated with platforms such as The Rondo Production in their educational talk series. More recently in 2020, he was also featured as a guest speaker for their online workshop on The Art of Phrasing.
 

Alongside developing his teaching studio for aspiring cellists of all ages, James also serves as leader-mentor with the Orchestra of the Music Makers (OMM) in Singapore. In addition to performing as principal cellist with the OMM, he regularly leads cello sectionals at the OMM as well as the SOTA-OMM Camp, and also served as the sectional tutor to various music groups including the Singapore National Youth Orchestra.


James’ passion for teaching came at a young age, having been inspired by many of his music teachers who have guided him during his formative years. For the past decade, James has served as a mentor to many students who have went on to excel in their musical paths, including scoring distinctions in their ABRSM examinations and performing in various music groups across Singapore.​
